Pond Ecosystem Tier 3- Plankton
Plankton are beneficial bacteria that sift out food particles in the water. Their contribution to the pond ecosystem is that they consume algae. However, they also feed on smaller microscopic bacteria, such as protozoa and smaller plankton. Therefore, in order to control algae, your pond must be sufficiently stocked with plankton organisms.
Some common species of plankton include Daphnia, Cyclops, Rotifers, and large Metazoans.
